Teaching Assistant Professor; Director of Undergraduate Studies
Dr. Hansen teaches a range of courses in comparative politics and international relations, including ethnic conflict, Russian and Central Asian politics, international organizations, and global economics. She was the recipient of the 2017 Marlene Strathe Distinguished Educational Leadership Award from the OSU office of Leadership and Campus Life, and in 2018 was named as the Golden Torch Award recipient from the College of Arts and Sciences by the Achafoa Chapter of the Mortar Board Honor Society.
She has an avid interest in using technology in the classroom, helps manage the department's online and social media presence, and has conducted research comparing blog assignments to other written classwork in achieving teaching goals. Related to this last project, she runs a blog in her free time, featuring news and analysis written by her and her current students.
Dr. Hansen's research focuses on identity conflicts and conflict mediation, with an emphasis on how minority groups impact the political process in emerging democracies. Her more recent work examines ethnic interactions and violence, including the relationship between ethnicity and terrorism. She is especially passionate about undergraduate research, and has acted as a research mentor and co-author to a number of Wentz Research Award recipients and other undergraduates pursuing independent research projects.
