"Rising Star" Courtney Baker


Bachelor's in Political Science (2012)

The Department's 2017 "Rising Star" award goes to Courtney Baker, who grew up in Rochester, New York. Halfway through her senior year of high school, she moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma when her parents were offered jobs at OSU. She made the decision to attend OSU and majored in Political Science at OSU, with a minor in Leadership Studies. She studied abroad twice during her time at OSU traveling to Egypt and Spain.

Political Science Alumni Keeps it Local in Politics

Photo of NajeraMiguel Najera has called Stillwater home since he began his time at Oklahoma State University. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and minors in Emergency Management and Sociology, he joined Oklahoma Farm Bureau Insurance Company. Najera was elected to the Stillwater City Council in 2014.

Masters in Political Science (1974)

Born in Santiago, Chile, Westphal dedicated his career to national defense and diplomacy.  After receiving his Bachelor's from Adelphi University of New York, he traveled to Oklahoma State for his Masters degree.

Alee and Adam Gossen Give Back to OSU

Alee and Adam Gossen endowed a scholarship to benefit both the Political Science and Biosystems Engineering Departments as a way to give back for the quality education they received here at OSU. Adam and Alee are lifetime members of the Alumni Association and have made it a priority to support student scholarships since they left campus.

Lou Watkins, Consultant & Member of the A&M Board of Regents

BA in Political Science (1964), Masters in Political Science (1965)

Watkins taught Political Science at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, from 1977 to 1991, chairing the Department during her last five years. In honor of her service, ECU continues to host a lecture series in her name, bringing in recognized authorities to address subjects of major public interest.
